How eBay seller fees are calculated
eBay generally charges one final value fee when an item sells. The fee combines a percentage of the total amount of the sale with a per-order charge. Category, Store subscription, seller performance, promoted listings, and international sales can change the result.
Estimated payout = item price + shipping charged − eBay feesNet profit = estimated payout − item cost − shipping costProfit margin = net profit ÷ sale revenue × 100Final value fee
The total amount of the sale generally includes item price, buyer-paid shipping, sales tax, and other applicable amounts. EasyTry applies category thresholds progressively where eBay specifies a rate for the portion above a threshold.
Per-order fee
For applicable categories, the fee is $0.30 for orders of $10 or less and $0.40 for orders over $10. Qualifying athletic shoe sales at $150 or more do not have a per-order fee.
Promoted Listings and international fees
The optional ad-rate estimate uses the total sale amount and assumes the sale is attributed to a promoted listing; use 0% when it is not. US sellers not using eBay International Shipping may pay a 1.65% international fee when the buyer or delivery address is outside the US.
Selected US eBay seller fee rates
This calculator launches with four commonly requested category groups. Categories not listed should use “Most categories” only if eBay's official table places the item there.
| Category | No Store / Starter | Basic or higher Store |
|---|---|---|
| Most categories | 13.6% to $7,500; 2.35% above | 12.7% to $2,500; 2.35% above |
| Books, most movies, most music | 15.3% to $7,500; 2.35% above | 15.3% to $2,500; 2.35% above |
| Guitars and basses | 6.7% to $7,500; 2.35% above | 6.7% to $2,500; 2.35% above |
| Athletic shoes | 8% at $150+; otherwise 13.6% | 7% at $150+; otherwise 12.7% |
Store discounts vary by category. Starter Store rates match the non-Store table for these categories. Vinyl Records, Movie and Music NFTs, vehicles, real estate, Classified Ads, bullion, handbags, watches, and other special categories are outside this calculator's initial scope.

Suppose a US non-Store seller lists an item in “Most categories” for $100 and charges $10 shipping, with no sales tax or optional fees in this simplified example.
Frequently asked questions
How much does eBay take from a sale?
The exact amount depends on category, Store subscription, total sale amount, seller performance, promotions, and whether an international fee applies. For US non-Store sellers, most categories currently use 13.6% up to $7,500 per item and 2.35% on the portion over $7,500, plus a per-order fee.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping and sales tax?
The final value fee is generally calculated on the total amount of the sale, which includes item price, handling charges, buyer-paid shipping, sales tax, and other applicable amounts. Some shipping exceptions apply.
How do I calculate the price needed for a target profit?
Select Find target price, enter your target net profit and costs, and EasyTry searches for the lowest item price that reaches that target under the selected fee rules.
Is EasyTry an official eBay calculator?
No. EasyTry is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by eBay. Always verify unusual listings against eBay's official fee pages.
